Shaflan Press is an independent publishing house, established at the end of 2025 in the Netherlands. It focuses on publishing works in the Persian (Farsi/Dari) language, with particular attention to literature, history, and cultural thought. At the same time, the press remains open to works in other languages that offer insight, intellectual value, and contribute to dialogue across cultures. Shaflan aims to create a space for thoughtful writing and to connect authors and readers across regions and traditions.
The name Shaflan refers to a historical place near Herat in Afghanistan, along the Herai River (Hari Rud), in what is today known as “Pashtun Zarghun” District. The original name was removed from official use by a formal decree decades ago. By choosing the name Shaflan, the press seeks to preserve a fragment of cultural memory and to keep it present through the works it publishes.

Broad Horizons: We are not a niche or archival press. We publish a wide spectrum of contemporary and classic genres, from modern fiction and poetry to history and cultural theory, in Persian (Farsi/Dari) and other languages.
Beyond Borders: Our platform is open to all Persian-speaking authors, whether from Afghanistan, Iran, or the global diaspora. We believe the Persian language belongs to everyone who writes in it, regardless of geography or origin.
Freedom of the Word: We provide a professional home for authors seeking a reliable partner. At Shaflan, we prioritize intellectual integrity; we publish works as they were meant to be read, free from the constraints of censorship.
Memory as Action: Our name, Shaflan, recovers a historical identity once erased from official maps. We carry this spirit into our work, ensuring that important ideas and cultural memories remain present and accessible to modern readers.
